Kolkata, May 01 (UNI) Strongly condemning the sudden spurt in terrorist activities and other forms of violence in different parts of the country, All India Minority Forum(AIMF) today appealed for "calm, universal brotherhood and amity".

Coming down heavily on the "brutal" killing of Indian engineer K Suryanayana by the Taliban guerillas in Afghanistan and the unprovoked mass murder of 22 people in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir yesterday, AIMF president Idris Ali and several other muslim leaders here described these acts as "barbaric and anti-Islam".

" Islam never preach violence, " they said and appealed for universal calm and brotherhood among the people of all religions. " Such barbaric acts will not take us anywhere, " they felt.

Referring to today's violence in Gujarat in which several people were killed in police firing and mob violence, the AIMF blamed the Narendra Modi government for allegedly mishandling the situation by trying to create a division among its people. " The government must be more careful in handling such sensitive issues, " they emphasised and appealed for calm.
