Works on to complete two new dams in Manipur

Imphal, Apr 30 (UNI) The irrigation and flood control department (IOFCD), Manipur, has started works on a war-footing to complete construction of two dams-- Khuga and Thoubal in the state.

The Thoubal multi-purpose project has been taken up at Imphal east, Ukhrul and Senpati district under tight security.

Officials said strict security arrangements had been taken following agitation by the people who refused to accept the rehabilitation programmes chalked out for them.

The affected people had been demanding review of the rehabilitation schemes as it was outdated and not favourable to them.

The Khuga dam, taken up at Churachandpur district, is also nearing completion Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh visited the dam several times to see the progress of the work.

He also visited the dam yesterday and had instructed the engineers to finish the construction works within three months. He further asked them to complete the dam before the rainy season.
