Troicki upsets Kubot to take title
Dharwad, Apr 30 (UNI) Unseeded Victor Troicki of Serbia won the singles title upsetting third seeded Lukasz Kubot of Poland 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the Dhawad open ATP Men's Challenger Tennis tournament at DDLTA courts here today.
Troicki collected the winner's cheque of 3600 dollars besides 50 ATP points. Kubot had to be content with 2120 dollars and 35 ATP Points.
The tussle between the Serbian and the Polish was a fitting finale and the duo displayed fine tennis to provide a feast to the Sunday crowd.
Troicki who started off well, lost his cool in the middle of the first set and eventualy lost it 3-6. However he was quick regain his concentration and made his opponent commit mistakes in the second set. Kubot lost his first service game providing his rival the crucial break. He broke Troicki in the second game to level at 1-1.
Both held their serves till the score was 3-3. In the seventh game Kubot was broken and seizing the oppotunity, Troicki held his serve and closed out the set 6-4 to level 1-1 on set score.
In the decider, Kubot failed to hold serve in the opening game but he broke Troicki in the sixth game to lead 4-2. In the tenth game Troicki dropped a match point but seized the second match point and closed out the set 6-4 to take the title.
Managing director of PVG Exports and Logistics Company Belgaum, Prasanna Gotage and senior IAS officer Kapil Mohan presented the trophies.
