Strike called to protest 'fake surrender' issue
Imphal, Apr 30 (UNI) The joint action committee against fake surrender has called a 20-hour general strike in Manipur to protest a 'fake surrender' ceremony.
The bandh will begin on May 2 midnight and continue till 2000 hrs the next day.
Five youths, who allegedly surrendered to the Assam Rifles in March, later claimed that they were forced to say that they were militants and surrender to Corps Commander Lt Gen Zu Shah.
This has snowballed into a major issue in the state and two of the youths have already been released as per the court's order.
Meanwhile, the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) also clarified that the cadres who surrendered in the name of the UNLF were not its cadres.
But the PIB (Defence Wing) said the allegations made were baseless and the youths who surrendered were genuine militants and not fake ones.
