SHG Supt gets 5 years imprisonment under atrocity act
Rajkot, Apr 30 (UNI) A fast track court Judge A D Trivedi awarded a five-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 2,100 on suspended Superintendent of Special Home for Girls (SHG) Ratnaben Sheikh for torturing the inmates of SHG.
Sheikh was awarded five years imprisonment under the atrocity act, three years for extortions, 18 months for abducting and assaulting inmates, under different sections of the IPC.
A D Trivedi delivered his judgement yesterday after hearing both the sides and found Ratna Shiekh guilty of torturing the inmates and also forcibly taking away money from them, prosecution said.
The complaint was filed against Ratnaben Sheikh by Rajkot district Social Defence Officer Sudhir Sur on June 8 last year stating that Sheikh had beaten up seven inmates, harassed and extorted money from them.
The court found Sheikh guilty of the crime after four of the victims -- Rita Vankar, Sita Patel, Nagma Solanki and Mayuri Patel-- recorded their statements against Ratnaben.
