Medha,Arundhati light candles for solidarity with displaced peopl
New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) Amidst chanting of 'Hath mein Hath liye'' hundreds of Narmada Bachao Andolan activists led by its leader Medha Patkar today lighted candles near historic Jantar Mantar for ''hope and struggle for justice'' for the displaced people.
Bookers prize winning writer Arundhati Roy and many other celebrities joined the activists in lighting the candles expressing their solidarity with the displaced people of Narmada valley, slums of Delhi and Mumbai; and adivasis of Kalinganagar of Orissa.
Ms Patker said her organisation would file a contempt petition in the Supreme Court against the states of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh for submitting 'false statements' before it on the rehabilitation of the displaced people in the Narmada Valley.
She also alleged that the state governments did not implement the rehabilitation schemes as stated in the affidavits submitted before the court last month.
The state governments did not provide drinking water facilities so far to the villagers displaced earlier, she claimed.
The organisation organised a video show at the site to apprise the gatherings about the plights of the displaced people in Madhya Pradesh.
