Make Civil Defence a national movement: Kiran Bedi
Nagpur, Apr 30 (UNI) Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Dr Kiran Bedi made a fervent appeal to make Civil Defence a ''national movement of selfless service.'' Addressing the 49th foundation day function of the National Civil Defence College (NCDC) here last evening, Dr Bedi said the country's civilian might, should be turned into a force to reckon with in times of disaster, tragedy and terrorist attacks.
Dr Bedi, who is Director General of Home Guards and Director of Civil Defence in Delhi, said Civil Defence did not enjoy the prestige and status worthy of its potential. It was the only way that civilians could serve the country, but unfortunately, the common man did not know about the service, she said.
Although the possibility of a full-scale war was remote, every citizen should be alert because there were still other threats like natural disasters, tragedies and terrorist attacks, Dr Bedi added.
Training in Civil Defence would help citizens prevent untoward incidents, she said.
