Bangalore, Apr 30 (UNI) Principal Scientific Advisor to Government of India Dr R Chidambaram today said the country can become an innovation leader in the manufacturing sector provided there is proper 'technology foresight' to make the right technology choices.
Delivering his address at the Graduation Day of M S Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies here, he said, ''Our choice should be in a national perspective and 'Coherent Synergy' should be introduced in our Science and Technology related activities to establish an effective 'innovation ecosystem'.

Dr Chidambaram said a country can be termed as developed one only if the there is no disparity in development of rural and urban areas. ''I will consider India a 'developed' country when the quality of life in rural becomes equivalent to the quality of life in the non-urban areas of already developed countries.'' He said that it was important for a country to retain the most talented young people in science in scientific careers and those who show high potential for applied research in technology development.
''The country has the responsibility to make such careers attractive and the universities have the responsibility to maximise the talent in such young people'', he added.
