Govt did not hike power tariff: AP CM

Hyderabad, Apr 30 (UNI) Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today claimed that Andhra Pradesh has maintained the 1st position among states in power situation despite providing free power to farmers and preventing tarrif hike.

Talking to NTPC Chairman and Managing Director T Sankaralingam at his camp office here Dr Reddy stated that the State Government had also reduced the industrial tariff twice, did not hike domestic tariff and had also reduced the surcharge imposed on the consumers.

NTPC officials said that they had met the demands of the state to expand the Simhadri power plant capacity by more than 1300 MW and to set up a 4000 MW Ultra Mega Power project in Krishnapatnam. They added that coal for these projects could be imported in case of any shortfall.
