Five killed, 17 injured in two road mishaps in Orissa
Baripada, Apr 30 (UNI) Five people were killed and 17 injured in two separate road accidents in the district today.
Police said a pick-up van carrying a bridegrooms' party comprising 20 people overturned near Sanapathakhama village under Bangriposi police station limits, about 44 kms from here, killing three persons.
While two of them died on the spot and the other succumbed to his injuries in the Bangriposi Public Health Centre.
The bridegrooms' party was returning from Nischinta village in Bangriposi to Upperbeda village under Hatabadada under Rairangpur police station limits of Mayurbhanj when the mishap took place.
Police said at least 17 members of bridegroom party were injured in the accident and initially admitted to a local hospital, but seven of them were later shifted to the District Headquarters hospital as their condition turned critical.
Fortunately, the bride and the groom were not in the ill-fated vehicle.
In another accident at Kuliana, about 25 kms from here, two persons were killed when a boulder carrying pick-up van collided head-on with a Chennai-bound truck on the Kolkata-Chennai National Highway No.5, police said.
