Anjali books Olympic berth despite finishing 4th in Brazil event

New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) Despite finishing fourth in 50m 3 Position Women's event in Resende, Brazil, today, ace Indian shooter Anjali Bhagwat has booked a berth for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Anjali won the quota as China, whose shooters finished second and third in today's event, had already qualified being the host nation and through bronze medal winner Liu's victory at the previous World Cup in China.

Today's gold medallist, Russia's Tatiana Goldobina had secured her nation's quota at the last year's World Cup in Fort Benning in the 10m Air Rifle event.

Meanwhile, Anjali shot a score of 679 (582+97) with a series of a perfect Prone 200 (100,100), Standing 187 (96,91) and Kneeling 195 (99,96).

In the finals, Anjali started off nervously with her third shot being the lowest of 7.8. The ace shooter was left to rue the missed chance which cost her the medal.
