Angul, Apr 30 (UNI) Angul district registered an all-time record in terms of revenue collection by collecting a whopping Rs 586.17 crore in the financial year 2005-06.

Official sources here said the collection of Rs 16 crore was the highest revenue collection by any district in the state compared to previous year.

According to a release, the bulk revenue collection had come from coal royalty which stood at Rs 300 crore followed by Rs 201 crore from sales tax.

Similarly, road tax collection accounted for Rs 18.98 crore while land revenue yield was Rs 14.37 crore. Excise earning, stamp duty, registration tax were collected to the tune of Rs 6.58 crore, Rs 6.01 crore and Rs 1.60 crore respectively, the release added.

Ironically there was a shortfall in the collection of revenue from the coal royalty and the district officials attributed that such shortfall to the frequent agitations and obstructions by locals which hampered coal production in Talcher coalfields badly.
