ADB meet to discuss common currency : Finance Minister

Hyderabad, Apr 30 (UNI) The 39th Annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), scheduled to be held here from May 3 to 6, would discuss the issue of ''common currency in Asia'' with the finance ministers of the respective countries.

Addressing the press here, Mr Chidambaram said the common currency issue which has been pending for discussion for several years would be taken up at the ADB meeting 'informally'.

It was not inlcuded in official agenda of formal discussions.

But, it would be discussed with all finance ministers and officials concerned during the four- day meeting.

Stating that the government was planning to conduct ''India Day'' on May 4 where the government would project India's multi-faceted growth story, he said Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia would deliver the keynote address on the 'opportunity in a rapidly growing infrastructure sector in India''.

He said apart from the statutory meetings during the ADB meet it would also discuss a range of issues including key trends in the international economy and their implications for Asia- from IT to labour and global capital market flows.

Mr Chidambaram said Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Goa and Rajastan Chief Ministers and the Finance minister of West Bengal would participate in a panel discussion on 'emerging opportunities across India' in the meet.
