24 Scribes given Matri Shree media awards

New Delhi, Apr 30 (UNI) Twenty-four select journalists from the print and electronic media were today presented the Matri Shree media awards for excelling their field.

United News of India Chief Reporter Indiwar Parijat, Mr Dinesh Upretee from Univarta, Principal Correspondent with Press Trust of India Harmeet Shah Singh, Ms Naresh Kaushik from Bhasha, Ms Sameena from Doordarshan and Mr A K Handoo from All India Radio were among those who were awarded the 'Bharat Mata Sheild'.

United News of India General Manager M K Laul gave away the awards to the recipients at the 30th Matri Shree Media Awards function this morning at the Russian Cultural Centre here.

The awardees included those from news agencies, photo-journalists and electronic media, besides scribes from English, Hindi and Urdu papers.

Mr Manish Pandey from The Times of India, Mr S Kannan from Hindustan Times, Mr Manish Aggarwal from Nav Bharat Times, Mr Ramesh Tripathi from Hindustan, Mr Kamal Narang from The Hindu, Mr Sunil Talwar from Punjab Kesari, Mr Naveen Gautam from Daily Jaagron, Mr Samar Sudesh from Daily Ajit, Mr C L Gautam from Aaj, Mr Shevender from Viraat Vaibhav, Mr Haamid Ali from Siyasat and Mr Nirbhay Kumar from Sandhya Times, were also awarded.

Mr Neeraj Gupta from Aaj Tak, Mr Ashok Singhal from Zee News, Mr Bharat Raj from Star News, Ms Anamika Ratna from Sahara Samay, Mr K M Sharma from Total TV and Mr Rakesh Gupta from Sadhna Channel were awarded from the electronic media.

Prakash Jha's 'Apharan', which was declared the best movie of the year, received a special award. The movie was also screened on the occasion.

Besides journalists, Mr M Jamshed Alam Choudhry was awarded for his contribution in the field of social services while Mr Raj Khurana was awarded for his contribution to labour services. Dr Prem Aggarwal was awarded for excellence in medical stream.

Prominent among others, present at the function were Punjab Kesari News Editor Mahender Khanna and Matri Shree Media Award Committee Convenor Dinesh Sharma.
