Top HM commander among two killed, 70 kg RDX recovered in J

Srinagar, Apr 29 (UNI) A top commander of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) was among two people killed while security forces recovered 70 kg RDX and other arms and ammunition in the Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

A defence ministry spokesman said troops and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir launched a joint operation at village Samboora in south Kashmir district of Pulwama early morning.

However, when the troops were about to storm a particular house, militants opened fire and also hurled hand grenades. The fire was returned and in the fierce clash, self-styled Battalion Commander (BC) of HM Bilal Ahmad Dar was killed.

One AK rifle and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.

Militants today shot dead one Bashir Ahmad Wani at Naidihal Chowk in north Kashmir district of Baramulla.

An official spokesman said security forces busted a hideout and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition, including 70 kg RDX, one AK rifle, one magazine, 500 rounds of ammunition, one hand grenade, three Remote Control Devices and one wireless set at Poonch last night.

The RDX was enough to make more than 10 bombs, he said.

In another successful operation, security forces busted a hideout at Jantal Gali forest in Baramulla and recovered two UBGLs with 23 grenades, one ak rifle, three magazines, one IED, two detonators, two Remote Control devices and one wireless set. However, no one was arrested, he said.

A woman Zarifa was injured in an encounter between militants and security forces at Potshahi in the frontier district of Kupwara today. She was hospitalised, he said adding militants managed to escape.
