Research vessel to be flagged off by Murli Deora

Mumbai, Apr 29 (UNI) Union Petroleum Minister Murli Deora will flag off research vessel JOIDES Resolution, under the National Gas Hydrate programme (NGHP), here tomorrow.

This aims to undertake drilling/coring in the deep offshore areas which are tipped to hold huge resources of natural gas in the form of gas hydrates.

The drilling ship, one of its kind in the world and equipped with laboratories onboard and expert scientists, is expected to give a boost on the ongoing research and development efforts for exploration of gas hydrates in the country, a release said yesterday.

India is one of selected group of countries who is carrying out research and development for gas hydrates, the release added.
