Written by: Staff

New Delhi, Apr 29 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam has agreed to address a joint session of the Jammu and Kashmir legislature, official sources said today.

Dr Kalam's consent to address the legislative assembly and council has been conveyed to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, the sources said.

Though the date for the address has not been finalised, it is likely to take place in August.

The President has already addressed the assemblies of various states, including Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka and Kerala.

In his addresses, Dr Kalam had asked these states and their law makers to identify the core strengths of their respective regions for providing focussed attention, besides foraying into newer areas of development for generation of employment and ensuring sustainable growth.

It could not be ascertained immediately how many of these states have taken care to send an action taken report to Rashtrapati Bhavan on his suggestions.
