Indian delegation to visit Israel next week

Shimla, Apr 28: A high-level Indian delegation led by Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar will visit Israel next week for cooperation in agriculture to further strengthen bilateral relations and co-operation between the two countries, Israeli Ambassador to India David Danieli said today.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said that the delegation would include Chief Ministers of Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and Agriculture Ministers of four other states.

Mr Danieli said the two countries had many similarities and affinities and the Israeli government had an overall agricultural agreement with the government of India and various agricultural programmes had been launched in other states.

He said India had also emerged as the biggest Asian country in exports to Israel and an industrial fund had been mooted to boost co-operation in commerce and industry.

Mr Danieli said Israeli being a drought prone area had done extensive work to utilize every drop of water and was prepared to share its expertise and technical know-how with Himachal, which was facing irrigation in arid zones and higher mountains that were devoid of any vegetation.

Israel also offered co-operation to Himachal in post harvesting techniques, boosting capacities of farmers and providing help in food and fruit processing technology.
