Four killed, seven injured in police-extremist encounter
Agartala, Apr 29 (UNI) Four people, including three security personnel and a militant were killed and seven others injured in an encounter between security forces and underground extremists in Tripura's Dhalai district today.
According to police reports here, a group of armed militants, suspected of belonging to the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura, ambushed security force vehicle at Champaraipara under Ganganagar police station at about 1330 hrs. The security forces retaliated forcing the NLFT rebels to escape from the site.
In the ensuing encounter, four people, including a Tripura State Rifle (SR) jawan, a CRPF jawan, driver of the vehicle and a militant of NLFT were killed on the spot.
Seven others received bullet injuries and have been admitted to a nearby hospital.
The encounter occurred while the security forces were returning to Ganganagar.
No arms from the slain security jawans were looted.
Senior police officials have rushed to the spot with reinforcements and launched a massive combing operation to nab the ultras, the sources added.
Today's encounter was second within 36 hours. On Thursday night, two ATTF militants were shot dead by security forces in Tripura's West District of Khowai.
