Kaliagunj, Apr 29: Congress president Sonia Gandhi yesterday lashed out at the West Bengal government, saying she was not satisfied with the state government's role to implement the Centre's projects.

Speaking at the interior village of Kaliagunj under North Dinajpur district to campaign for the Assembly elections in Bengal, Mrs Gandhi said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government is concerned about the problems of North Bengal but the state government was not playing any active role to find a solution.

According to her, more than Rs 90000 crores had become liabilities to Central government for not paying of Provident fund dues from the tea gardens owners. Mrs Gandhi added that the UPA government is worried about the tea garden workers, who were starving.

She said the Central government has planned to pass a bill for developing the tribal women belonging to the tea gardens in North Bengal.

Criticising the CPI(M), she said the party was ruling over the state since 1976 but did not do anything for the development of the poor villagers, adding, some villages of West Bengal still do not have electricity, drinking water and proper communication.

She promised that all villages would get electricity within three years.

Campaigning for INC candidate Prof Pramath Nath Roy, contesting for the Kaliagunj constituency, she exhorted the people to vote for Congress to develop the state.
