Cases registered against NBA activists
Badwani (MP), Apr 29 (UNI) Police have registered cases against 20 people, including Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA) activists, for obstructing official work when a government team visited villages affected by the Sardar Sarovar Project yesterday.
Superintendent of Police Dineshchandra Sharma said the team had gone to identify houses coming under the submerged area. However, villagers refused to cooperate and forced the team to return.
NBA leader Medha Patkar expressed surpise over registration of the cases. She said people being affected by the dam had a constitutional right to know about their rights.
Ms Patkar said the government has submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court although the survey work was not complete. This reflected the oppressive tendencies of the police administration.
