Audi targets to sell One Million cars

Bangalore, Apr 29 (UNI) German Luxury Car maker Audi plans to touch a million car sales a year by 2008-09, Company Board of Management (Marketing and Sales) Member Ralph Weyler said today.

Talking to newsmen here on the occasion of launching Audi's first showroom in South India, he said the global sales has touched 835 lakhs last year and it was targetted to cross One million in a couple of years.

He said the company entered India last year by appointing Dealers in Delhi and Mumbai. Bangalore, the IT hub of India was considered as most appropriate place to cover South he added stating that Jubilant Motors would look after sales and after sales facilities.

Audi expected the indian sales to touch about 400 this year.

Replying to a question, Mr Weyler said that due to high Customs tax charged in India there was no immediate plan to open manufacturing plant. However, if the sales volume increases it could be thought of.

Jubilant Motors Business Head Sanjay Malhotra said that "typically the automobile dealerships have been a closely held family affairs. This is for the first time a corporate house is stepping into this arena to provide an enriching experience for the discerning customer."
