Atwal, Chopra fail to make cut at Zurich Classic

New Orleans, Apr 29 (UNI) Arjun Atwal failed to make his fourth cut this season as he dropped out of contention in the six-million dollar Zurich Classic of New Orleans at the English Turn Golf and Country Club here with a poor three-over 75 score in the second round.

A double-bogey on the last hole summed up the day for Arjun Atwal, who was inconsistent throughout. Atwal started with a birdie on the first but dropped shots on the next two holes before he double-bogeyed the fifth.

The birdie, which came on the next hole, was followed by a bogey on the ninth as he finished an eventful front-nine.

On his way back, the Orlando-based Indian started with a birdie and after a couple of level-par shots he birdied the 13th and 15th but a bogey in between spoilt the show. He ended the day with a disappointing double-bogey on the 18th to bow out of the fourth in six tournaments this season.

Meanwhile, Indian-born Swede Daniel Chopra (76) met with a similar fate as he also failed to make the cut here. Chopra started his day with a double-bogey and kept dropping shots between the four birdies he fired to crash out.

At the top, American Joe Durrant fired a blemish-free eight-under 64 studded with eight birdies to overtake overnight leader Graeme McDowell at the top of the leaderboard. McDowell slipped to tied 13th after a one-over in the second round.
