63 teams for YSCA trophy

Chennai, Apr 29 (UNI) A record number of 63 teams including holders and sponsors IOB will vie for honours in the 37th All India YSCA Trophy limited overs cricket tournaments begining here on May 1.

Tournament organising committee secretary M S Gurumurthy said the tourney, to be held on weekends, offers a winners purse of Rs 25,000 and a runners-up prize of Rs 15,000.

The tournament will be played in the knock-out format initially.

The eight quarterfinalists will then be split into two groups and will play matches on a league basis. Top two teams from each group will meet in the semifinals.

The final is scheduled for July 2.

Mr Gurumoorthy told reporters last night that apart from cash awards, there would be a man of the match for all matches. There would be cash awards for best batsman, bowler, player of the final.

Prominent teams including Chemplast Sanmar, India Cements, Indian Bank, Central Excise, SBT Trivandrum, Kochin Refineries were expected to participate in this event.
