Sessions Court adjourns the murder trial to May 8
Mumbai, Apr 28 (UNI) Additional Sessions Judge U D Salvi today adjourned the murder trial case involving Abdul Karim Telgi, the kingpin in the fake stamp paper scam, and three others to May 8.
The prosecution informed the court that Telgi is undergoing treatment in a Pune hospital and hence sought adjournment.
Telgi, his nephew Tabrez and associates Uday Sawant and Sajid Khan have been charged with the murder of Telgi's former driver Christopher Bhatti in 2001.
According to the prosecution, Bhatti, who used to handle Telgi's fake stamp paper business in Tamil Nadu, had allegedly stolen Rs 2.5 lakh and gone into hiding, but Telgi's associates went to Tamil Nadu and brought him to Mumbai.
Bhatti was brutally beaten up by the accused following which he succumbed to his injuries and his body was then dumped in a Mumbai creek, according to an FIR registered by police on August 7, 2001, Telgi and his associates were arrested.
The charges against the accused were framed on March 24.
