Fleming in double century spree
CAPE TOWN, Apr 28 (Reuters) A record-breaking double century by New Zealand's Stephen Fleming effectively shut South Africa out of the second test in Cape Town today.
New Zealand, who were put in to bat, were 535 for eight when bad light ended play nine overs early on the second day.
Fleming scored 262, which made him the first New Zealander to score three double centuries in tests.
Fleming's score is the highest by a New Zealander against South Africa, easily surpassing the 170 Scott Styris made in Auckland in 2003-04 and the fourth highest score by a New Zealander overall.
James Franklin hit 93 not out in a stand of 256 for the eighth wicket, New Zealand's record partnership against South Africa for any wicket.
