Colombo committed to Peace Process with LTTE
New Delhi, Apr 28 (UNI) Despite the attack on its Army Chief Lt Gen Sarath Fonseka and the reprisal air strikes by Colombo, the Sri Lankan government is committed to the Peace Process with the LTTE and wants India to help ''politically and diplomatically'' for a solution within the parametres of the island nation's territorial integrity.
Sri Lankan High Commissioner C R Jayasinghe, speaking at the Foreign Correspondents' Club here today, said Colombo looked for a solution ''hopefully sooner rather than later'' for resumption of the stalled Peace Process.
Observing that the suicide attack on the Army Chief was meant to provoke the government forces to break the ceasefire, he said Colombo had exercised maximum restraint to let the Peace Process continue.
''It requires two to tango. The government has made it clear that it will act with restraint and be committed to negotiations for a peaceful solution. The government has made it very clear that it will not denounce the ceasefire and has no intention of doing it,'' he said.
Asked what role Colombo expected India and the international community to play, Mr Jayasinghe said the Sri Lankan government looked for support from India in the domain of politics and diplomacy.
The international community, he said, was expected to continue listing the LTTE as a terrorist organisation.
''Colombo has urged the international community to list the LTTE as a terrorist organisation,'' he said and added that conducive atmosphere had to be created for the peace talks to resume.
