Turkish companies propose to set Textile plants in SEZ: Kalantri

Mumbai, Apr 27 (UNI) Turkish companies have proposed to set textile manufacturing plants in the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) of the country, while signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to facilitate better trade between India and Turkey at a meet with the World Trade Centre (WTC) and the All India Association Of Industries (AIAI) in Mumbai today.

Welcoming the Turkish delegation AIAI president and WTC Vice President Vijai Kalantri said, ''Indian exports to Turkey is 80 per cent and imports is only 20 percent of the total trade, hence India needs to market itself well in Turkey to create brand recognition.'' Adding, many turkish companies have approached us to open textile plants in the SEZs for re-export to European market.

Speaking at the meet, Indo-Turkish Businessmen Association's Director Ali Seker said, there is a tremendous opportunity for investments, joint-venture in areas of oil-exploration, thermal power, petro-chemicals, textiles, auto components and engineering in Turkey.

He added that 90 per cent of textiles imported in Europe is from Turkey besides other material. As such India could explore many such possibilities by having a base in Turkey, besides there is demand for Marble, granite Handicrafts, Agro-products where India is very strong and could make their presence felt in the country.
