Solanki urges Modi to motivate MP CM to complete R

Ahmedabad, Apr 27 (UNI) Gujurat state Congress president Bharat Solanki today criticised Chief Minister Narendra Modi for his series of actions aimed at taking full credit for the completion of the Sardar Sarovar Project (SSP).

In a statement here today, Mr Solanki said, Mr Modi was trying to corner al glory for himself. The state Congress chief said his party would, however, continue to support Gujarat's all-party effort to ensure an early completion of the inter-state multi-purpose project.

The Congress leader extended his party's total support to Mr Modi, if the latter motivated his Madhya Pradesh counterpart to complete the Rehabilitation and Resettlement (R&R) of Project Affected Persons (PAPs) in the catchment areas on the reservoir at the earliest.

Mr Solanki recalled that the foundation of the gigantic river valley project and the bulk of construction work, including technically most crucial sluice gates, were readied during the Congress chief minister's time. He said that Mr Modi should not take the total credit for the project, forgetting the contributionas of several former chief ministers of Gujurat The contribution of other BJP chief ministers like Keshubhai Patel and Suresh Mehta, besides Shankersinh Vagehal, could not be belittled, he said.

However, Mr Solanki reiterated his party's full support to SSP, despite Mr Modi's style of functioning, trying to use the limited-hour fast as a forum to spit venom against the ruling Congress party at the Centre.
