New Delhi DCP to appear before court tomorrow

New Delhi, Apr 27 (UNI) A city court today directed New Delhi DCP Anand Mohan to appear before it on April 28, in connection with the brutality meted out to hundreds of medical students, who were protesting against the latest reservation policy announced by the government in top premiere institutes.

Filing the complaint before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Kamini Lau, the complainant, a practising lawyer in Patial House court Manoj Sharma, stated that he was shocked and pained to learn about the brutality in human treatment and excessive force used against the peaceful demonstration by the medical practitioner students.

Taking note of Mr Sharma's complaint, Ms Lau directed the DCP to furnish a report tomorrow in respect of the allegations involed against the use of force against the demonstrators on April 26.

The court also directed him to file a status report regarding the number of demonstrators arrested and their present condition.

Mr Sharma stated that the freedom of peaceful demonstration is indeed a fundamental right of every citizen and cannot be curtailed by the use of force.

He has pointed out that it was evident from the newspapers that there were excessive use of force by the police and the manner in which young boys and girls have been handled indeed showed the kind of brutality meted out to the noble profession.

Some of the police officials even misbehaved with female demonstrators in the most indecent manner. The excessive police force has been used as a political instrument to supress and violate the constitutional right, he said.
