Miscreants burst crackers in front of booth

Kolkata, Apr 27: Two unidentified miscreants burst crackers to scare voters in front of a polling booth at Haltu under Jadavpur constituency today, where Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is locked in a four-cornered contest in the ongoing Assembly Elections.

The two miscreants, who were reportedly loitering near the Bidyadhari Girls High School at Haltu in South Kolkata, somehow, eluded the armed security personnel and came near one of the polling booths.

Suddenly, they burst a powerful cracker scaring the long queue of voters, who were waiting to cast their votes for long.

As both the miscreants, taking advantage of the subsequent melee, tried to flee as the voters without realising what had happened ran helter skelter, they were chased and caught by the armed security personnel.

After interrogation the two were handed over to the city police.

Soon the situation returned to normal and as the people returned to the booth the voting continued as before. The incident has, however, put a scar on the record of an absolute peaceful election in the last two phases on April 17 and April 22 respectively.
