Chennai, Apr 27 (UNI) The IT and ITES industry in Tamil Nadu will generate around 4.50 lakh and 3.50 lakh new jobs respectively in the next ten years, according to a recent CII study.

The study 'Mapping of Human Resource Skills in Tamil Nadu' says these industries would be among primary growth engines of the state.

By 2015, the IT industry in the state, which was expected to grow at a CAGR of 19 to 20 per cent, could reach the size of US dollar 17 to 20 billion, while the ITES industry, with a CAGR of 22 to 23 per cent, could become a US dollar 10 to 12 billion industry, it said.

Tamil Nadu was set to emerge as the leading IT and ITES state in India, the CII said, adding, the IT industry currently employed over 80,000 people in the state.

Considering the pace of growth, the industry would provide employment to around 4.50 lakh people by 2015. Similarly, the ITES segment, which employed around 65,000 people today, was expected to generate employment for over 3.50 lakh people in the next ten years.

The study also identified several key skill gaps in both IT and ITES. In general, these industries lacked people with strong business process understanding, analytical skills and learnability.

It recommended introduction of special training courses for arts and science graduates in the use of computers, ITES skills and product selling skills to meet the increasing human resource requirements of IT industries.
