Deshmukh asks for speedy rehabilitation of Pune slum dwellers
Mumbai, Apr 27 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh today directed the concerned authorities to hand over a plot in Kasewadi, Pune, belonging to Revenue Department to the Pune-Pimpri-Chinchwad Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA).
Speaking at the first meeting of the SRA, Mr Deshmukh said out of the 30 lakh population of Pune, about 10.5 lakh stay in slums. If the area housing the slums is handed over to the SRA, the rehabilitation of the slum dwellers could be done immediately, he added.
He also directed that the local authorities should ensure that not a single new slum is errected.
