Cyclonic storm in Bay of Bengal heading towards Burma Coast
Bhubaneswar, Apr 27 (UNI) A severe cyclonic storm lay centred at 950 kms South East of Gopalpur in the Bay of Bengal and is likely to intensify further and move in a north easterly direction to cause isolated rains in Orissa in the next 48 hours.
Met sources, however, said severe cyclonic storm is likely to skip the Orissa coast and hit the Arakan coast in Myanmar.
The authorities, however, as a precautionary measure hoisted the warning signal at Paradip and Gopalpur ports and advised fishermen not to venture into the sea during the next 48 hours.
Meanwhile, heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorm lashed several parts of Orissa in the afternoon following a norwester.
The state capital recorded 4.1 mm rainfall in a brief period of one hour. Heavy rains and thunderstorm were also reported in Balasore and Keonjhar and other parts of coastal districts, Met sources said.
