CECA gives go ahead for enhancing coal prod of Dipka, Gevra
New Delhi, Apr 27 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CECA) today gave its approval for enhancing the coal production of Dipka and Gevra Opencast Projects in Chhattisgarh.
According to a spokesman here, tenders can be floated for outsourcing additional 10 million tonnes per year (mty) coal by surface miner (from 25 mty to 35 mty) and corresponding overburden in the case of Gevra project. For Dipka, the tenders floated would be for 5 million tonnes per year (from 20 mty to 25 mty).
Today's decision is expected to go a long way in alleviating the acute coal shortage being faced by power stations.
Sanction has also been given for rephasing and reappropriation of sanctioned capital between major heads in tune with requirement of advanced additional production programme, he said.
For flexibility in the implementation stage within the approved cost estimates to respond to improvements in technology and equipment which would result in improved profitability and productivity parameters.
Gevra OCP is linked to Korba STPS (NTPC) and other power houses while Dipka OCP is linked to Seepat Super Thermal Power. Additional coal produced will go towards meeting the demand of power houses and other industries.
