CCS Ponders Lanka Situation

New Delhi, Apr 27 (UNI) The Cabinet Committee on Security today took stock of the emerging situation in Sri Lanka and its implications for India following Tuesday's suicide bomb attack on the Sri Lankan Army Chief in Colombo.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who returned home only late last night after a five-day two-nation tour, chaired the CCS meeting.

National Security Advisor MK Narayanan was among those attending, sources said.

According to reports, security along the Tamil Nadu coast has been put on high alert in anticipation of an increase in influx of refugees in the wake of heightened tensions in the island nation following the latest terror action by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

The Navy has deployed four vessels on the International Boundary Line to patrol the area round the clock. Air patrol has also been intensified, sources said.

The CCS also reviewed the situation in neighbouring Nepal where a revived Parliament is scheduled to meet tomorrow to decide upon future elections in the Hindu Himalayan Kingdom where multi-party parliamentary democracy has been restored after an almost four-year- long hiatus.
