Automobile dealers seek power to register new vehicles

Bangalore, Apr 27 (UNI) The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) today demanded that state governments amend the Rules under the Central Motor Vehicles Act to facilitate registration of new vehicles at the dealers point itself.

Speaking at an interactive meeting with Automobile Dealers of Karnataka, orgainsed by the Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries here, FADA National President Binod Agarwal said the present system of carrying new vehicles for registration to Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs) resulted in considerable delay and also caused fear of damage to vehicles.

He pointed that there were provisions to amend the rules in the Act to delegate the power of registration to dealers also, apart from the RTAs. However, the state governments had not responded to FADA's petition in this regard.

Mr Agarwal also said that FADA was taking steps to have its chapters in all the states to organise automobile dealers across the country as it would help in solving their problems collectively.
