14 CPI(M) cadre get life in murder of BJP workers
Kannur, Apr 27 (UNI) A local court today convicted and sentenced 14 CPI(M) activists to rigorous life inprisonment for murdering two BJP workers at Melur, near Thalassery, in March 2002.
Delivering the judgement in the sensational twin murder case, Thalassery Principal Sessions Judge S Sathinathan also slapped a fine of Rs two lakh on each of the convicted.
The judge asked them to immediately remit the fine to the court and ordered that in the event of default they would have to undergo additional five years jail term. The fine amount would be handed over to the families of the two vicitims.
The court on Monday last found the CPI(M) workers guilty of committing the crime and acquitted one person on benefit of doubt.
Country bombs were hurled on BJP activists C K Sujish (24) and P Sunil (22), who were then stabbed to death in the early hours of March two, 2002, a day after an RSS-BJP bandh in the locality.
