Uzbekistan supports India's candidature for UNSC
Tashkent, Apr 26: Uzbekistan President Islam Karimov today extended his country's 'absolute and resolute' support to India's candidature for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.
''We support India's case for inclusion in the UN Security Council,'' he said at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Manmohan singh after talks between the two leaders.
He said India has a genuine claim for inclusion in the Security Council.
In a joint statement issued after the talks between the two leaders, Uzbekistan and India, while considering the current changes in global and regional level, stressed the urgent need for reforms of structure and activity of the UN and enhancement of its efficiency in countering new therats and challenges.
''Uzbekistan once again reiterated its support to the permanent membership of India in an expanded UN Security Council. India expressed its appreciation for Uzbekistan's support,'' the joint statement added.
