Shillong, Apr 26 (UNI) Suspected United Achick National Front (UANF) militants abducted two customs officials this morning in the West Garo Hills district.

Police said Mr Dharani Bora and Mr Mrinal Sharma were kidnapped at gunpoint at around 0530 hours from Gasupara area in the West Garo Hills district, about 400 km from here. The officials were on way to Dhubri in Assam from Gasupara, where they were posted.

''They were abducted from somewhere between Jatrakhora and Baburambill early this morning. Though no one has claimed responsibility till now, we suspect involvement of UANF militants,'' Deputy Superintendent of Police D D Marak told UNI over phone from Tura.

'' The abductors have so far not made any contact with the customs authorities or families of the two officials. We have launched a manhunt to rescue them and nab the culprits,'' said Mr Marak.
