Mea probes about issuance of passport to Rana

Ranchi, Apr 26 (UNI) Ministry of External Affairs has started primary departmental inquiry into the incident of issuance of passport in fake name to Sher Singh Rana, the main accused of Phoolan Devi murder case, from Ranchi passport office.

Official sources told UNI here today that a passport was issued to Rana in the name of Sanjay Kumar Gupta in May 2004 on the verification certificate of a local Sub-Divisional officer.

Later when a letter sent to his address returned and the police informed that the person has changed his address, the passport was forfeited.

Sources said there was a strong possibility of a full fledged probe being ordered soon by the mea in this matter.
