JK HC orders release of funds in quake-hit areas

Srinagar, Apr 26: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court has directed the state government to take immediate steps for releasing the funds to officials in earthquake-hit Baramulla and Kupwara districts.

The direction was passed by a division bench comprising Chief Justice Bashir Ahmed Khan and Justice Nirmal Singh while hearing a public interest litigation.

The court ordered that funds be released as soon as possible for disbursement among the survivors of a devastating earthquake of October 8 last year, which killed tens and thousands of people and rendered millions homeless on both sides of the Line of Control.

The next date of hearing has been fixed on May 25.
