Hughes to launch international VoIP from May 1
Lucknow, Apr 26 (UNI) Global leader in the satellite networking technology, Hughes, today announced launching of international Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calling service from May 1.
''The VoIP callling service will be introduced at an affordable rate of Rs 3 per minute from all HughesNet Fusion centres across the country,'' Hughes Communication, India, Director Pranav Roach said at a news conference here.
HughesNet Fusion is a satellite-based multi function centre that offers end-consumers broadband services in the areas of interactive e-learning, e-commerce and web-access.
Under the business model, the company ties up with technology firms locally to offer its services under revenue-sharing basis.
''The company has tied up with leading service providers across industry verticals like banks, educational and vocational training institutes such as XLRI and IIM Khozikhode, e-commerce portals and travel companies to offer a wide range of services under one roof,'' he said.
Meanwhile, the tech major also announced the launching of 23 new HughesNet Fusion centres in Uttar Pradesh taking their number to 29.
''We are looking to double our centres in UP in the current year with good demand coming from various cities,'' Mr Roach added.
The company has 200 centres, including 29 in UP, across 86 cities and plan to ramp up to 500 in 2006 on pan-India basis.
''We are bullish on UP and feel the state has a lot of potential in the field of e-commerce and e-learning,'' he told UNI.
HughesNet Fusion aims to facilitate an increase in internet penetration in UP and enable small businesses expand their presence and competitiveness globally, he added.
The company is a global leader in providing broadband satellite networks and services for large enterprises, governments, news organisations, banks and small businesses.
Hughes invented Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) technology, which is used in ATM outlets, Outside Broadcast (OB) vans of news channels and online-trading firms.
