Imphal, Apr 26 (UNI) The Federation of Regional Indigenous Society (FRIS) has demanded introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) system in Manipur to check influx into the state from neighbouring countries.

The FRIS in a memorandum to Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh urged him to check the influx.

FRIS president Jadumani said all the political parties were made aware of the problem and urged to make it an election issue in the next elections.

The members of the FRIS also discussed the matter with the Chief Minister, Mr Jadumani said.

A study conducted by United Committee of Manipur (UCM) revealed that 30 per cent of the Manipur's population were outsiders.

The government should enact some laws to safeguard the indigenous people of the state, the FRIS opined. The population of 'immigrants' were more than the population of 'the tribals of the state' and if the trend continues unabated it was feared that half the population of the state would be immigrants.
