Founder of St Johns Grp of schools passes away
Chennai, Apr 26 (UNI) Dr G Rajakumar, Editor-in-Chief ''Thina Thoothu'', Tamil Daily and Founder Chairman of St Johns Group of schools, died here last night following prolonged illness.
Dr Rajakumar, who was also the Bishop of St Johns Evangelical Mission, was 73. He is survived by his wife Sakuntala Rajakumar, three sons, two daughters and 14 grand children.
Hailing from Srivaikundam in Tuticorin district, Dr Rajakumar had started the St Johns school in the city in a humble way. He later became the Founder Chairman of St Johns group of 12 schools.
The schools included an International Residential school at suburban Poonamallee. More than 12,000 students are studying in these schools. His eldest son Dr R Kishore Kumar is presently managing the schools.
Bishop of St Johns Evangelical Mission, Dr Rajakumar had built ten churches in the city and more than 25 churches in the state.
The funeral service will be held at St John's Senior Secondary School here this evening and the burial at Quibble island, Santhome, Rajkumar's family sources said.
