CAs protest service tax levy

New Delhi, Apr 26 (UNI) The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (Northern India Region) today observed 'protest day' against imposition of service tax.

ICAI members, at their ITO office here, wore black badges to protest withdrawl of exemption levy of service tax on services other than accounting and auditing provided by chartered accountants.

The Northern India Regional Council of the ICAI, which represents nearly 24,000 chartered accountants across the states of Haryana, Himachal radesh, Punjab Jammu and Kashmir, NCT of Delhi and Union Territory of Chandigarh, demanded that the service tax be scrapped.
