40 injured in police lathicharge

Agartala, Apr 26 :At least 40 persons, including women and children, were injured when police resorted to lathicharge and blank firing at Amarpur town in Tripura's South district last night.

Police said the clash took place after the people turned violent on announcement of closure of the week-long Baisakhi Fair in the town. The fair was earlier extended for two days.

Sources said the situation has become tense in Amarpur after the incident.
