Sonia calls on people to free TN from AIADMK misrule
Chennai, Apr 25 (UNI) Congress President Sonia Gandhi today called upon the people to vote for the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA), to free Tamil Nadu from the misrule and clutches of the All India Anna DMK (AIADMK).
Addressing an election rally at Island Grounds here while winding up her whirlwind tour, Ms Gandhi said 'Today we are all here to appeal to you to vote for the DMK-led DPA to ensure Tamil Nadu is freed from the misrule of AIADMK and the people are freed from the clutches of AIADMK.' Hailing the DMK's election manifesto, which promised to provide rice at Rs two per kg and distribute colour television sets, Ms Gandhi gave an assurance that if the DMK-led front was voted to power, the DPA, together with the Congress-led UPA at the Centre, would ensure that all the needs of the people of the state would be fulfilled.
'No need of the people of the state will be ignored,' she said and appealed to the people to vote for the DPA.
She said the DMK, in its manifesto, had promised to protect the interests of each and every section of society, including fishermen, weavers and workers of the unorganised sector. 'We will ensure minimum level social security' as promised in the DMK's election manifesto.
Ms Gandhi, who air-dashed from Kerala, addressed an election rally in the Union Territory of Pondicherry this morning and arrived here tonight after then addressing a poll meeting in Madurai.
