Karnataka to launch Bhagyalakshi for girl child
Bangalore, Apr 25 : Karnataka Government will soon launch the 'Bhagyalakshmi' a novel scheme for poor girl children belonging to families below poverty line.
Speaking to newsmen here after discussing the scheme in detail with Life Insurance Corporation of India, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa said under the scheme any eligible girl child born after March 31 would get Rs 10,000 deposited in her name and would be paid out on completing 18 years subject to fulfilling eligibility conditions. The main objective of the scheme was to provide financial and providing economic and social dignity, they added.
Mr Yediyurappa said the LIC would also extend life insurance benefit for the earning parent and also provide subsidy for live insurance scholarship amounts for girl child through a social security fund created by the LIC.
LIC officials, who were also present, explained the scheme in detail and said the total premium was Rs 200 per annum to be borne by LIC from social security fund and another Rs 100 from the premium recovered from girl child's interest account out of the lumpsum deposit to be paid by the state government. A sum of Rs 20,000 would be paid as insurance amount in case of death of the earning parent due to any reason.
