I will serve even as footwear if elected: Karunanidhi
Tiruchirapalli, Apr 25 : DMK president M Karunanidhi said he will serve the people even as footwear, if they elect him as the chief minister in the Assembly elections to Tamil Nadu on May eight.
Addressing a mammoth public meeting, as part of his second phase of campaign at Tennur in the city last night, Mr Karunanidhi said ''I am not after any post or power. But, however, the enthusiasm emanating here has enthralled me. It is the people, who described me as the fifth Chief Minister of the State and I will work hard till the end of my ''life.'' He said he is 83-year-old now and has been serving he society from the age of 13. But I would urge you to give me your valid support to enable me to sustain your bubbling enthusiasm, he added.
He said there is a massive wave in favour of the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA)-led by DMK and the alliance will sweep the polls.
Terming the Assembly elections as a struggle between autocracy and democracy, Mr Karunanidhi said the latter will succeed, as the people of the state want to replace the present government.
He urged the DPA cader not to lag behind and avoid complacency.
Otherwise, it would become a hare and tortoise story, he added.
Mr Karunanidhi said he has no personal enemity with Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and he differs with her only on principles.
The question is whether Ms Jayalalithaa was capable as Chief Minister, he added.
